Colorado Springs Families Celebrate Free Summer Transit Rides
Colorado Springs, CO - Starting this Sunday, June 1st, all Mountain Metropolitan Transit (MMT) bus and Metro Mobility rides will be free for Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak region residents through August 31, 2025. This marks the fourth consecutive year that MMT has participated in the Ozone Season Transit Grant Program, allowing families across the Centennial State to travel for free during the summer months.
"This is the fourth year for our summer zero fare program," said Lan Rao, Transit Division Manager. "Over the first three summers we have given over 2 million rides to people in the Pikes Peak Region and we are looking forward to doing it again this summer."
The free fare initiative aims to encourage Colorado Springs and Denver metro residents to utilize public transit, reducing vehicle emissions and improving air quality during the peak ozone season. Local business owners and families are celebrating the money-saving opportunity, especially as inflation continues to impact household budgets.
"As a small business owner, being able to offer my employees free bus passes for the summer is a game-changer. It helps us attract and retain talent, while doing our part for the environment." - Jessica Wilkins, Owner of Pikes Peak Pottery
To kick off the free rides, MMT will host a "Ride Free for the Summer 2025" party at the Downtown Terminal on Tuesday, June 3rd from 11 am to 2 pm. Colorado Springs residents are invited to enjoy refreshments, prizes, and learn more about the transit system's routes and services.
